Full confession: I chased Christine and her Afghan Hound, named Devine Destiny, through down town Grand Haven, Michigan, for the opportunity to meet such an incredible dog breed! A year later, after “Dee Dee” filled out into her adult body, Christine met me on the shores of Lake Michigan, at the Muskegon State Park Beach, for a photoshoot that would capture Dee Dee’s personality and the essence of the Afghan Hound breed.
Sight Hounds can be a great challenge to motivate for training, but Dee Dee’s limited trick training did not concern me at all. Relying on my background in dog behavior, we allowed Dee Dee to lead the shoot, capturing poses as she offered them, and staying within her comfort zones. We let her stand and watch the seagulls, hip-hop across the sandy shore line, play peek a boo amongst the break water rocks, test the waves as they rolled around her toes, and lay on the cool sand to relax.
I was obsessed with the way the wind fluttered through her long hair, her wizard eye brows, the way she glided across the landscape in a trot, and the electrifying energy she had in her attitude. I could have followed her in awe for days, never capturing enough photographs to wane her unique beauty.
