When visiting Serenity Stables Equestrian Center in Reddick, Florida, I had the pleasure of photographing a 14 year old Australian Shepherd, named Brinks, and a 9 year old, Selle Francais jumper named, Nellie.
Brinks has always been a loyal companion for Allison, but when he's not shadowing her moves throughout the barn, he is playing with his frisbee or supervising her riding from the arena or gardens surrounding the barn.
During his portion of the photoshoot, we worked at his pace, ensuring he was comfortable, happy, and when he needed breaks, we switched to photographing Nellie, returning to Brinks when he was recharged. I always want to make the photoshoots an enriching and positive experience for all animals, as it is, and was, the only way to capture the soft and loving expressions Brinks has for life, and for Allison.
Our goals for Nellie, were to create Equine Portraits against a black background, as well as using natural backgrounds found throughout the farm property. The barn was quiet that morning, so we took our time, letting Brinks recharge, while Nellie tried eating every hanging moss we put her near, and us laughing through it, capturing the her silly personality. We ended up throwing a lunge line on Nellie, and Allison lunged her while I photographed (lunge line was removed in editing), capturing her laid back movements, interrupted by a few random bursts of sass!
