It’s baby Dexter, a Welsh Springer Spaniel! Dexter found a home with Beth, owner and trainer of Karn (the Boykin Spaniel I love photographing! Go see Karn’s latest blog HERE!). Having his first photoshoot while he was still a puppy was a requirement from Beth. Playing and photographing puppies is never something you have to ask me twice about, so on the schedule he went!
Instead of photographing in our normal locations that offer either a woodland or field setting, we decided to take Dexter to one of my favorite parks in Grandville, MI. This park is fairly quiet in the mornings, and offers a landscape of beautiful gardens, streams, and waterfalls.
Dexter spent majority of time on a leash (removed in post production), and was able to hold a sit or a down for only a few short seconds. I planned what shots I wanted a head of time, and allowed Beth the freedom to work with and train Dexter in the various poses I wanted. We offered several snuffle and zoomie breaks to capture action and personality shots, which ensured the healthy balance of play for Dexter’s puppy brain.
