Equine Portraiture Sessions

This past year I photographed over 100 Equine Portraiture Sessions, and to be honest, some of the poses have become mundane. Like people, horse’s personalities are unique and all materialize through photographs differently. Some horses have confidence and are outgoing, while others - like myself- become shy, and awkwardly forget what to do with themselves when a camera is pointed at them. On top of that, some owners want more traditional poses of their horse, while others ask for specific poses that are a bit more artistic.

It is my job to find the best way to photograph both the client’s wishes, as well as their horse’s personality and conformation in the most flattering way.

My hopes for this year, is to elevate these sessions to not only offer the traditional poses, but to find more unique ways to pose and frame a horse’s beauty. Learning how to master this starts with reviewing old work in a new light, thinking out of the box during upcoming sessions, and soaking up valuable information from upcoming mentorships with some of the best equine photographers in the country.

Some of the images included in this blog were not my first choice, but with looking at the raw collection again, I have become quiet fond of new found poses and tidbits of personality that peek through. Can you tell which 9 images in this blog were originally passed over and left unedited until today? Would you fall in love with a similar collection of images featuring your own horse?
