It was the end of a long day, filled with Equine Portraiture Sessions at Curtis Performance Horses, and I was a bit tired and ready to sit down. I had one last Horse & Rider session to complete with Lily & Sam, and at the time, I had no idea it would become one of my favorite sessions of 2020.
I photographed Lily with her previous horse in 2019, and although she was willing to be photographed, I wasn’t able to break through her shell to capture the rhythmic beauty she possessed. This session was completely different. Lily relaxed into her new horse Sam, and through her movements and stunning smile, she revealed her true heart through my lens. The variety of lighting and magnificent color tones we were able to capture during her 45 minute session, had me drooling over her collection, and absolutely ecstatic when Lily and her family ordered HUGE 30x40” Fine Art Pieces for their home.
Following the Equine Prep guide that was provided prior to her session, Lily chose two outfits that complimented her beauty, her personality, and the chestnut and creams that Sam carried in his own coat. Sam was bathed, groomed, and standing ready with clean tack, but keeping a watchful eye on the bucket of treats. Lily’s trainer joined us to help position Sam, directing his attention, and assisted in running Sam at liberty. This allowed me to focus solely on the lighting, posing, and capturing Lily’s expressions and movements as she shared her love for Sam. The resulting collection is stellar!
Here are a few favorites from their collection!
