Kathy William’s Quarter Horse Barn in Lowell, MI., was bustling with horses and riders returning from a horse show. There was a buzz of excitement from the riders, and a contentment from the horses returning to familiarity, munching on hay and rolling around in freshly bedded stalls.
I walked into the barn, just as Megan was finishing up preparing Dreamer. I couldn’t contain a laugh when she said that she had made her husband drop off his personal hair products to help control Dreamer’s flyaway mane. He made Megan promise not to double dip dirty horse hands into his hair gel. Lol!
We wandered away from the hustle and bustle of the barn, finding a quiet area at the far end of the arena to photograph. Megan’s friend has accompanied her to the photoshoot to help direct Dreamer’s attention and ears. I had given her a few of my tricks to use, as well as a noisy bag full of treats. Because I photograph both horses AND dogs, sometimes my treat bags end up with a collection of both rounders and milkbones in them, and this afternoon, I forgot to warn Megan’s friend about that!
We were lined up for the perfect shot when Dreamer started making horribly funny faces behind Megan, clearly disgusted that he was accidentally given a DOG treat to eat! We were all laughing so hard at Dreamer’s reaction, and to prevent further disgruntlement, we gave him a handful of REAL HORSE treats and lots of good boy scratches!
Dreamer was a good boy, Megan’s smile was genuinely blissful, and the photos of this session will forever make us laugh!
