Equine Portraiture // Patrick

I’ve learned a lot as a photographer in the past year, and am always thirsty for more knowledge! It’s the beauty of art, you can always learn something, even if it’s as simple as looking at your subject or using the lighting in a slightly different manner.
This past year I have been focusing a lot of my attention on ways I can elevate my Equine Portraiture, Black Background Sessions with different poses, manipulation of the single light source, and my editing skills in post production. This Winter, I am focusing on learning how to master the Equine Portraiture, White Background Sessions. The images are taken in the same set up, but require a different control of lighting, and utilize a completely different set of editing skills.
After several mentorships with leading equine photographers I admire throughout the country, I finally feel as though I am grasping the concept of what is required to take a RAW image and turn it into a beautiful piece of art with a black OR white background.
Putting my new learned skills, editing equipment, and programs to practice, I had fun playing with Patrick’s session from this past October at Curtis Performance Horses. My goal was to find images I hadn’t edited previously, that would not only expand this collection with new poses, but balance it out with an artistic combination of black and white backgrounds. It is still a work in progress, but I am excited to see how my skills will evolve, and how many breathtaking images I can create from the beauty of your horses!
