I have had the pleasure of photographing several HORSE & RIDER SESSIONS with Kaylee and Romeo over the past three years, as their relationship has blossomed into an unforgettable love. Romeo, a half Arabian, found Kaylee’s grandmother several years ago, and with dedicated work, they were able to gain Romeo’s wavering trust in people and provide him a life rich with spoils of good health, a safe home, exciting adventures competing in barrel racing, and an abundance of lasting love.
We are all believers that if you take care of your horse, they will take care of you. The love and gentleness Kaylee provides Romeo is reflected back in his gentle breathing, the way he relaxes into her, and the calmness as he closes his eyes, completely trusting Kaylee’s every move.
With fresh snow piling up, and what felt like a tropical heat wave of 23oF, I met Kaylee, her grandmother, and Romeo, and trudged through the snow to the back pasture. With grace, Kaylee removed Romeo’s halter and he circled around, taking mouthfuls of the clean snow, licking his lips with content and curiosity at what we were all doing standing there watching him. He was much more interested in being loved on then heading into the deep snow! With Romeo close on her heels, Kaylee plowed a path through the powdered snow, and with hands on her knees, she invited him to play. With determination to do anything that will make Kaylee happy, Romeo moved throughout the snow, circling her, one ear locked on Kaylee’s movement to continue an open conversation with her.
After photographing Romeo at Liberty and a few minutes of riding, Kaylee snuggled Romeo with whispers of love and admiration of his beauty in the snow. As she whispered, Romeo melted into her, making it very clear that there was nowhere in the world he would rather be.
