The second night of the snowstorm, my phone chirped from an incoming message. It was Cassidy, owner and trainer of Curtis Performance Horses, in Jenison, MI. She was inspired by a winter photograph of a girl in a long dress standing next to her Arabian horse. I always recommend that clients wear seasonal clothes, to avoid being too hot or too cold during their sessions, but I knew that Cassidy was well aware of the winter temperatures and would willingly turn into a popsicle for a photos like these.
She ordered the red dress (a maternity dress originally from Amazon), and two days later, minutes before the rain began, we photographed her and her Arabian horse, Simon, riding bareback in their outdoor arena. She wore riding pants underneath the dress, but we still took breaks for her to warm up in a coat and thaw her fingers. Her husband, who graciously helped out, said, “It was fun to see Cassidy turn as white as the snow!” Lol! Even chilled to the bone, she looked gorgeous, splashing through the snow, the red dress fluttering behind, resembling a princess straight from the fairytales.
