I am primarily an English gal (more specifically a dressage gal), but my love for horses, and photographing their beauty and the incredible bonds with their humans, isn’t restricted to the discipline they compete in.
In preparation of a huge western pleasure photoshoot across the country, I opened a model call for the greater Muskegon Michigan area, to practice capturing peak movement and poses geared toward western pleasure horses and riders. Chelsea and her horse Torque, from West Michigan Equestrian Center, located in Muskegon, MI., were a great fit to photograph!
My main goal was to practice my timing of western horses under saddle at a jog and lope. The timing is complete opposite of dressage movement, and I needed to ensure I could turn off that muscle memory and start creating muscle memory for the western pleasure movements. After capturing those, the sun relaxed into a beautiful golden hour that begged to be used in portraits of Chelsea and Torque together.
My heart was very happy with the collection captured, and it’s left me wanting to photograph more in the western world. If you have a western horse - - don’t get swayed by the English content I primarily publish! I can absolutely fulfill your photography needs in your western world!
