I traveled across Michigan to photograph Miss Julia and her hunter under saddle, half arabian horses, Mufasa and Cassie, at Luton Performance Horses in Grosse Ile, Michigan.

This chapter of Julia’s life was important to capture, as her lease with Mufasa was ending just as Cassie was coming into her life as her new show horse. We wanted to ensure we photographed Julia and Mufasa, the bond they have together, on the ground, under saddle, the plethora of ribbons and trophies they won together, and the love Julia’s whole family has for this incredible horse.

We spent most of our time photographing Julia and Mufasa, before taking group photos of everyone together, and then changing gears to photograph Julia and Cassie in her second outfit. There was plenty of laughter as the horses whinnied back to my fake whinny, sticking tongues back into the horse’s mouthes, and my amazing assistant chasing clouds of gnats out of the golden light that absolutely needed to be in the photos!

It was a fun photoshoot, and I can not wait to see where Julia and Cassie will go in their equestrian career over the coming years! Can’t wait for our next Horse & Rider photoshoots at Luton Performance Horses!
