After growing up riding and competing in dressage, photographing the graceful balance and elegant movements has a settling feel of home to me. I photograph a lot of portrait sessions, but I miss capturing dressage under saddle.
In hopes of furthering my clientele into the dressage world, I reached out to Katie at CanterWorks Dressage LLC in Lansing, MI. She was incredibly gracious in letting me come photograph ring side while she trained several of her horses, to rebuild a portfolio of up to date dressage images.
Katie went above and beyond in bathing and braiding the horses, cleaning tack and polo wraps, and even planted flowers in her dressage letter boxes to bring a pop of color to the arena. I had to contain my excitement as she brought out the cutest homebred German Riding Ponies to work with, and instantly fell in love with Charlie as he criss crossed his legs in a leg-yield, bringing attention to his unique primitive striping up the back side of this legs!
I was sunburnt to a crisp, but I didn’t care. Being able to photograph dressage again put a smile on my face and had me dreaming of dancing ponies for the next several weeks! BIG thank you to Katie for being amazing to work with and photograph! I can not wait until my next trip in October to CanterWorks Dressage to photograph more horses and riders who share a love for this sport.
