King, Friesian in Michigan's Winter Snow

Oh how I love when it snows! I have a list of clients every year that wait to have their horse photographed in the snow. It’s a hit or miss where the snow falls in Michigan, if the footing is safe, and if we can quickly coordinate schedules for a spur-of-the-moment photoshoot. But when it all comes together, the photos are stunning!

A photoshoot of horses at liberty in the snow usually lasts 15-20 minutes. Long enough to capture their movement from both directions, time for a good roll in the fresh snow, and then candid photos of the horse and owner at the end. With the cold, I never want to heat up a horse too much, and horse’s are only encouraged to play if the footing is safe, so these sessions are short and sweet.

It’s a wonderful opportunity to photograph the natural beauty of your horse, and a chance to capture your winter memories with your best friend. If you would like to be added to the call list for a winter photoshoot following the next snowfall, please contact me!
